Description

Glebe House is a house, originally a rectory, dating from the 17th century with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of random and coursed rubble, with some brick quoins, and features stone tiled roofs, with a tile roof hidden behind a parapet. There are four brick stacks. The original house was in a “T” shape, significantly altered in the early 19th century with the addition of a substantial wing to the left of the front facade. The house has two storeys and an attic to the original 17th-century portion, and three storeys to the 19th-century wing. The front has a 2:1:1 bay arrangement, with the right bay being a projecting wing with a gable. It has 12-pane sash windows of varying sizes, with marginal lights to the ground and first floors of the left bay. The right bays have a paired wooden dividing mullion on the ground floor, and a small 6-light sash window on the third floor. A gabled casement dormer lights the attic. A window opening to the left of the two bays is in brick reveals with segmental heads. The doorway is in the second bay, with a projecting flat-roofed porch containing a 6-panelled door and a transom light with decorative glazing bars above. An attached building to the left has a half-hipped stone tile roof and a 4-light casement to the frontage, and a tall brick stack. The interior is believed to contain a ribbed and vaulted plaster ceiling.
