Description
Gladen is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, constructed from local stone rubble with Doulting stone dressings and hipped stone slate roofs. The building has two storeys with an attic and features a former brick chimney stack that is now sealed off. The east elevation has four bays and a single-storey extension to the north. It includes a plinth, plain beaded surrounds to the casement windows, and a plain glazed door with a fanlight in the second bay. There are two windows on the first floor and a single pitched roof dormer window above.
The south elevation, which faces the railway, consists of three bays with slightly proud quoins. It has cruciform casement windows in the first and second bays, and a blocked keystoned doorway in the third bay, with plain windows above. The interior has not been seen. Gladen was formerly the farmhouse of Sheephouse Farm and may be located on the site of "the House of the Sheepfold" mentioned in 1417, possibly incorporating earlier fragments.
