Description
Whaddon House is a detached house that dates from the 18th century, possibly incorporating earlier elements. It is constructed from local stone that has been rendered and colourwashed, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof and featuring brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys with attics and a three-bay main facade facing west. It includes sash windows in plain openings, with traceried glazing bars below and 16 panes above. The central door is a six-panel design set within a 20th-century open portico surround. The centre bay is gabled, featuring a semi-circular attic window. On the north-west corner, there is a one-storey extension with a low roof behind a parapet, which has mullioned windows under labels. Some 18th-century features remain inside, including doors and doorcases, although many have been modified. The earliest known mention of the house is from 1739, when it belonged to Mr. Francis Hill, but it may date back further.
