Description
Coombe Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, incorporating earlier elements. It is constructed of Doulting ashlar with a plain clay tile roof, prominent coped gables, and brick end chimney stacks. The building is arranged in an 'L' shape and stands three stories high, with three bays. It has a plinth and features 16-pane sash windows in plain surrounds. The first and second floor outer bays have flat, voussoired arches above the windows, while the centre first floor has a 12-pane sash, and the second floor has 8-pane and 6-pane sashes. A plain, part-glazed door is set within a simple surround in the centre of the front. Extensions to the rear incorporate walls from earlier buildings. The farm was first documented in 1548; a medieval house may have been located on the site of the barn nearby. The farm is mostly 18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century by Mr. Dyne, a Bruton solicitor who owned the property. The interior has not been inspected.
