Description
The Tower House is a corner house built in the 18th century and modified in the 20th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with brick chimney stacks. The building has three storeys, with one bay facing Quaperlake Street and four bays on Coombe Street.
The ground floor has a modern hardwood door and small-pane shop windows at the front, above which is a 12-pane sash window in a plain surround. There are traces of earlier blocked windows on either side of this sash window. Above it, there is a 16-pane casement window with louvred shutters.
On the side elevation, there is a plain boarded door to the first bay, with 20th-century hardwood windows in the remaining lower bays. The first floor features two 16-pane sash windows followed by two 20-pane sash windows. The second floor has 12-pane sash windows in all bays except for the first. A wrought iron bracket and hanging sign are located over the main door, although the date of the sign is uncertain. The Tower House is situated on the site of the former Maypole Inn, and parts of the inn may be incorporated into the structure.
