Description

Adsborough Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with a rear wing added in the 17th century and the southern half reroofed in the 19th century. The building features roughcast over rubble, with a brick lean-to addition on the north gable end. The wall breaks forward to the right of the entrance, and there are raking buttresses in the end two bays to the right. The roof is double Roman tiled with coped verges on the right, while the north gable addition has a pantile roof. Brick stacks are located on the left gable end and to the right of the cross passage.

The farmhouse has a south-north orientation and consists of three cells and a cross passage, with a northeast wing projecting north behind the gable, filled at the angle with a lean-to addition. It is one and a half storeys high, featuring two three-light gabled dormers rising from the eaves. The ground floor has three and two-light windows to the right of the entrance, and a four-light window to the left, along with another plank door entrance in the addition to the left where the ground slopes away slightly. The interior has not been seen, but there is evidence that the wooden lintel of the cross passage fireplace had painted decoration, believed to be from the 17th century. The roof over the hall and inner room was rebuilt in the 19th century, with purlins carried on iron brackets, while the roof to the wing and outer room is from the 17th century. The partitions between the passage and outer room, and the hall and inner room, are timber framed with brick infill.
