Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a private house, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar, with a rendered extension to the west, and has a Welsh slate roof with coped gables. Yellow brick chimney stacks are also present. The building is two storeys high and originally comprised three bays. It features hollow chamfered mullioned windows with horizontal bar casements, with three lights in the upper middle bay and four lights in the outer bays. There is a central half-glazed door set in a plain surround. A single-bay extension is present, with three-light casement windows, and a hooded porch to the east gable.
A front boundary wall, built of large cut and squared local stones with a shaped coping, runs approximately 8 metres south of the house. The western portion of the wall incorporates smaller stones. The wall is about 1 metre high, with a higher return on the southeast side and extends for approximately 28 metres. It is capped by openwork cast iron panel railings of Gothic design, featuring interwoven pointed ogee arches, standing approximately 400 mm high. The wall greatly enhances the setting of the house.
