Description
No. 5 High Street is an 18th-century house that has been converted into offices. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar stone dressings and features a plain clay tile hipped roof with an abutment to the east and brick chimney stacks. The building stands two storeys high with attics and has four bays.
Notable architectural features include a high plinth, a cill course, and rusticated quoins, along with an eaves course. The first bay has a segmental through archway with rusticated surrounds, above which is an angled oriel window with 4-12-4 pane sashes beneath a lead roof. The other bays feature 12-pane sash windows in architraved surrounds. Centrally located are a pair of three-panelled doors in a plain surround, topped with a timber hood supported by console brackets and a margined fanlight. Additionally, there are two 16-pane sash windows in pitched roof dormers located in bays two and four.
At the rear, there is a large oriel window consisting of 8 12 12-8 pane sashes with Gothick traceried glazing bars, topped with a lead bell-hip roof. The interior has not been seen.
