Description
No. 11 Market Place is a shop with a house, built in the 19th century. The building has roughcast render and is colourwashed, topped with a Welsh slate roof that has a shallow pitch and plain gables. It features brick chimney stacks and stands three storeys high with four bays, where the two central bays are wider and project slightly.
The later 19th-century shopfront occupies bays two and three, characterized by wooden pilasters, a centrally recessed doorway, a plain fascia, and a flat hood supported by console brackets. Bay one has a garage door set in a semi-circular arched opening, while bay four features a six-panel door with a plain fanlight in a semi-circular sub-arch and arched recess. Above these openings is a band course, and the first floor has four-pane sash windows that are horizontally divided with side margins, set in plain openings. The second floor mirrors this with matching three-pane windows.
A plaque above the side door notes that George Sweetman, a local historian, lived here from 1869 to 1914. The interior has not been seen.
