Description
No. 5 New Street is a former house that has been converted into a bank and offices, dating from the 18th century. It features Doulting ashlar stonework and a Welsh slate roof with coped gables and brick chimney stacks.
The building is two storeys high and has four bays. It has a plinth, a band course, a cornice, and a plain parapet. The ground floor has been modified, featuring a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight in an architrave at bay 1. Bays 2 and 4 have 20th-century casements in widened openings with stone architraves, while bay 3 has a six-panelled entrance door that is accessed by four steps. This door has a rectangular 'Y' traceried fanlight and is set in an eaved architrave with a pediment hood supported by console brackets. There are 18th-century wrought-iron railings leading up to the steps. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows in architraves. A 20th-century hanging sign is located to the right of bay 4. The interior has not been inspected.
