Description
No. 1 Eastover is a shop with a dwelling, built in the early 19th century. It features painted brick, painted stone voussoirs and cills, and a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a six-window range. The curved corner site is accentuated by curved bracketed eaves and large raised voussoirs above slightly segmental arches.
On the second floor, there is a curved 4/8-pane sash window at the corner, flanked by three 3/6-pane sashes on the east facade, which faces the river. There is also a blind window immediately to the right and a 3/6-pane sash window at the far right. The first floor features a blind window at the curve and to the right, along with a 3/6-pane sash window at the far right and three 6/9-pane sashes to the left (east). A photograph from 1865 indicates that the blind window at the corner previously had 8/12 panes in a curved frame.
The ground-floor facade on East Quay includes a wide segmental gauged brick arch with a brick keystone leading to a 20th-century door, positioned left of center. To the right, there is a door beneath a high cornice and overlight, flanked by moulded consoles. The left side of the east facade and the entire south facade are occupied by a 20th-century shop. The interior has not been inspected.
