Description
The Fountain Inn is a public house dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, situated on West Quay in Bridgwater. It is constructed of stucco with painted stone coping, platbands, quoins, string courses, and cills, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof hidden behind a parapet. A large brick stack is located on the right side. The building has a double-depth plan, set at a right angle to the street, and is three storeys high with an attic. The symmetrical facade has three windows per floor. The upper-floor windows are horned 9/2-pane sash windows with label moulds that also serve as string courses. Above the cornice and parapet, a truncated triangular screen wall features a segmental arch over a large 9/2-pane tripartite window in the attic. A moulded cornice extends over a fascia across the ground floor, where a 20th-century bow window is centered, with doors on either side. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
