Description

No. 6 West Quay is an 18th-century former inn, later used as a restaurant, and was refronted in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stucco with a corrugated asbestos roof. The building has a double-depth plan, situated at a right angle to the street. It is three storeys high with an attic, and features a three-window facade.

The two ranges to the left form a symmetrical front, while the range on the right is built over what was formerly a carriage entrance. The building has plain pilasters and a cornice band. Horned sash windows are set within raised surrounds, with slightly pointed tops. The upper floors on the right have windows with 4/4 panes, while the windows on the left have 6/6 panes. A high parapet wall rises to cover a 6/6-pane attic window to the left of centre, with similar windows above on the right. A low-relief plaster decoration of a horse, which was the trademark of the brewery, is situated beneath the attic window. The ground floor has three 6/6-pane windows to the left and a 20th-century door to the right. The rear elevation is rendered and dates to the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected.
