Description

This is a terrace of ten houses, located on the south side of Staplegrove Road. Built in the mid to late 19th century, the terrace is divided into two distinct phases of construction. The houses are built of pinkish brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with decorative bands of red brick. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate.

The original terrace, numbers 29 to 39, and numbers 41 to 47, was built symmetrically, with numbers 33 and 35 projecting forward. A visible vertical joint between numbers 39 and 41 shows where the later section of the terrace (numbers 41 to 47) was added. Each house has two bays, and is two storeys high. The window and door surrounds are painted and feature chamfered details. The doorways are round-headed, while the ground-floor windows have segmental arches and the first-floor windows have square heads. The ground-floor windows are distinguished by their tall keystones, which extend into a stepped red brick band. A similar band at the eaves incorporates moulded gutter brackets.

The recessed front doors consist of eight vertical panels, with the upper panels now glazed, and are accompanied by a two-pane overlight. The windows are four-pane sashes. Numbers 33 and 35 are emphasized by having projecting cills to the first-floor windows, which align with the red brick plat band. The terrace has broad cross-ridge stacks and ashlar coping to the gable ends.
