Description

A row of three cottages dated 1821, located on the east side of South Street in Milborne Port. They are constructed of local stone, squared and cut, with mostly fish-scale clay tiled roofs and overhanging gables. The chimney stacks have varying designs. The building is two storeys high and consists of nine bays, with a mid-20th-century addition forming bay nine.

Number 65, comprising three bays, features early pattern two-light casement windows with iron-framed leaded opening lights in the first bay, and a late 20th-century glazed door in the second bay. There is a blind window above the door. Number 66, with two bays, has two-light leaded casements, some of which have been modified. It includes a six-panel flush door with glazed toplights in the second bay, and a shield-shaped stone plaque dated 1821 above the door, where no windows are present. Number 67, spanning four bays, has two-light leaded casement windows in all bays except the lower third, which has a 1+3+1 light angled bay window with a lead flat roof. The upper second bay is blind, and below it is a six-panel door with glazed toplights, sheltered by a flat timber hood supported by brackets. A garage with boarded doors under a concrete lintel occupies the fourth bay.

The interiors have been substantially altered. Number 65 was formerly a glover’s house, while Number 67 served as the village constable's house, with the room featuring the bay window originally functioning as a cell, according to information provided by the occupants in March 1984.
