Description

House. Built in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of local stone rubble with plain clay tile roofs, coped gables, and brick and stone chimney stacks. It has an "L" shape, with a three-bay south elevation. The ground floor windows are small-paned casements in segmental arches, and the first floor has gables above the outer windows. There is a projecting brick and stone porch with a pointed segmental arch and a blind, trefoil-cusped plaque in the gable. The east elevation, of four bays, is similar with alternate large and small gables over the upper windows. Bay three projects slightly, with a plain segmental arch to the recessed doorway. The house’s design is unsophisticated, and local tradition suggests it may have been converted from a former hospital for people with learning disabilities in Border.
