Description
Rockwells House is a house located in Batcombe, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rubble with a colourwashed return, dressed quoins, coped verges, and a slate roof with ashlar stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring three bays. The windows include 2-, 3-, and 4-light moulded stone-mullioned designs, with most lights fitted with 19th-century Gothick casements and glazing bars. The central door opening is framed by a moulded freestone surround with an arched head, leading to a 20th-century panelled door. Above the door is a small freestone plaque depicting a lamb's head in relief. A covered porch with a glazed roof connects to a 19th-century moulded stone door frame on the roadside, which has a 4-centred arch head and a panelled door. On either side of the porch, there are runs of rubble wall with freestone coping. The south facade showcases a fine 18th-century design with sash windows. Inside, there are notable features including fireplaces, beams, a doorcase, a staircase, and ornamental plasterwork.
