Description

The gatepiers, gate, and railings located 2 meters west of Church Lodge were built in 1850 and designed by John Norton. The gatepiers are octagonal with shallow moulded pyramid caps, a neck band, and a cavetto moulded plinth. The gate features five bays with simple finials, horizontal bars reinforced with a curved cross piece, and a central band of simple decoration. The railings have fleur de lys headed standards and five horizontal bars with a chain draped above, extending southeast to the A39. The railings curve in a semi-circle facing the entrance to the Church of St. Ethel Dreda, with the gate distinguished by trefoil headed reinforcement. The total length is about 1500 meters. The railings are identical to those at the Church of St. Ethel Dreda and St. Audries School, while the gate and gatepiers are the same as those at Stowey Lodge and Williton Lodge.
