Description
Church Lodge is a lodge to St. Audries, now functioning as a dwelling. It was built in 1851 and altered in the late 20th century, designed by architect John Norton. The building is constructed from Sampford Brett red sandstone random rubble with Bath stone dressings, featuring quoins, coped verges, decorative finials on the gable ends, and V-shaped tiles. There is an external stack on the south front with a coat of arms inset panel in the chimney breast. The plant gabled block lies roughly east-west with a north crosswing, and the entrance is located in the angle on the east front. The east front has one and a half storeys and is arranged in 1:1 bays, with a gabled dormer on the left and a 20th-century feature under the gable end on the right beneath a hood mould. The stone-tiled 4-light windows have Tudor arched hoods with horizontal glazing bars, and similar windows are set into the corners on the left and right, with cyma reversa moulded kneelers above and corbelled supports below. The entrance is in a gabled porch at the centre. On the right return, there is a 2-light casement window to the right of the chimney breast and a 20th-century 2-light casement window to the left. The interior has not been viewed.
