Description
Williton Lodge is a lodge to St. Audries, now serving as a dwelling. It was built in 1850 and enlarged in the mid-20th century. The architect was John Norton. The building is constructed from Sampford Brett red sandstone with Bath stone dressings and features quoins, V-shaped tiles, coped verges with knellers, and decorative finials at the gable ends. The stack on the rear elevation has been renewed in brick.
The plan consists of a gabled block with a gabled crosswing facing the south entrance at the angle of the west front. It is designed in the Tudor Gothic style. The west front is one and a half storeys high and has a 1:1 bay arrangement. All windows have Tudor arched heads with horizontal glazing bars. The left gable end features a 2-light casement window under a hood mould, while the right gabled dormer rises from the eaves and has a single light. On the ground floor, the left side has a crenellated 5-light canted bay window, and the right side has a single light window with Tudor rose stops to the hood mould. The central entrance porch has a gabled centre that carries the Acland-Hood coat of arms, with a Tudor arched doorway and a ledger and plank door. The right return has a 2-light casement window under a hood mould in the gable end, with a stone slated 5-light canted bay below. The interior has not been viewed.
