Description
The gates, gatepiers, and railings fronting St Audrie's School were designed by John Norton in 1850 and are made of cast iron. The double gates feature standards with simple finials, horizontal bars topped with draped chains, and are reinforced with curved cross pieces. The gatepiers are decorated with pierced quatrefoils and trefoil-headed lozenges, topped with fleur de lys finials. The railings have fleur de lys-headed standards and five horizontal bars topped with draped chains, surrounding the main entrance to St Audrie's School and extending about 2000 meters to the south. The design of these railings is identical to those in front of the Church of St Ethel Dreda. Originally, the St Audries estate was enclosed with iron railings of this same design.
