Description
Chaingate, located at No. 21 Magdalene Street, is probably an early 19th-century building that has undergone significant alterations. It is two storeys tall, constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, and features a hipped pantile roof. The building has banded quoins and two windows with plain keyblocks. The windows are modern metal-framed. A set of five steps with railings leads up to the doorway, which has a plain wood architrave and a modern half-glazed door. Chaingate is listed for its group value, as it is part of a collection that includes Nos 19 to 23 (odd) and Nos 1 to 6 (consecutive) known as The Armoury.
