Description
The Conservative Club is a pair of brown brick buildings located on the north side of Church Square. They date from the same period and share a similar style with the houses on Hammet Street to the west. The front of the building rises three stories and features a cornice and parapet. It has seven sash windows with glazing bars and window box rails on the first floor. In the center, there is a three-centred archway adorned with a painted keystone and imposts. To the left and right of the archway are two stone doorcases, which include half-round Tuscan pilasters, open pediments, semi-circular traceried fanlights, and six-panel doors. The Conservative Club, along with the Church of St Mary Magdalene and other listed buildings in Church Square and Hammet Street, forms an extremely important architectural group.
