CASTLE CARY CP FORE STREET (East side) ST6432 6/64 White and Sons, Ironmongers, and attached house

GV II

House with shop. Dated 1804. Cary stone cut and squared, Doulting dressings; plain clay tile roof between coped gables; brick end chimney stacks. Two storeys, 4 bays. Good later C19 shopfront of 2 square shallow-projection bays with 3-light windows to each side, elliptical arches to heads of lights, pair tall glazed doors in central recess, across bays 1 and 2, set under continuous shallow fascia with lead flat roof; to bay 3 a 6-panel door in architrave with pediment hood on console brackets; to bay 4 a 2-storey angled bay window with 2+4+2 pane sash windows, under lead flat roof; above, to bays 1, 2 and 3, 12-pane sash windows in architraves, and between bays a plaque with raised letters reading "N/AA/1804", Interior of shop still largely C19 in character - inside of house not seen.
