Description
This well cover, dating from the late 18th century, is located approximately 30 metres to the south-west of Hollin Hall. It is constructed from ashlar stone and features a chamfered arched recess with abaci and a keystone that encloses the spring or well. The arch is topped with ashlar coping, and the overall height is about 1 metre above the water level. The flanking walls project and slope down to ground level, creating a shallow pool in front of the arch, which allows the water to drain away. The date 1785 is reportedly carved in the keystone, although it was not visible during the last survey.
