Description

Rigg House Farm is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with an early 19th-century addition and some minor alterations from the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has pantile roofs. It features two brick gable stacks, and the original house has raised and coped ashlar gables.

The north entrance front shows the original house on the left, which includes a central two-light sash window, flanked by a taller two-light sliding sash window to the left and a doorway to the right with a half-glazed 20th-century door. Above, there is a three-light sliding sash window to the right and a two-light sliding sash window to the left. The early 19th-century wing to the right is blank. All windows have glazing bars, and there is a two-light dormer window above.

On the west front, there is a single pointed arched window on each floor, featuring two-light casements. The south front includes a single narrow casement window and a single-storey kitchen wing with a tall brick gable stack, which has various 20th-century casement windows. The east front is partly rendered and has 20th-century casements, along with a small stone lean-to porch and a plank door.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered spine beams, some 18th-century two-panel doors, and a fine 18th-century cupboard with panelled doors. The upper landing features a balustrade with turned balusters, while the later wing retains moulded plaster coving and chimney pieces.
