Description
Thrope House Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar details and a Welsh slate roof. The building features a lobby-entry plan and consists of two storeys with six bays. It has raised quoins and a four-panel door set in a raised quoined surround at bay four. To the left of the door is a three-light chamfered mullioned window, while to the right are two two-light windows with chamfered surrounds and mullions. The left-hand bays also have two windows in chamfered surrounds, although the central mullions are now missing. On the first floor, all windows are two-light and in chamfered surrounds, except for the one above the door, which is plain; two of the right-hand windows retain their mullions. The fenestration includes 20th-century single-pane casements. The building features moulded kneelers and copings, with end stacks and one ridge stack, all topped with cornices. At the rear, there is a gabled stair wing with a Venetian window.
Inside, the right-hand room boasts a large segmental-arched stone inglenook fireplace adorned with carved fielded panels and voussoirs, flanked by arched panels, with a central rose motif. A large stone dogleg staircase with splat balusters leads to the upper floor, where there is a stone fireplace featuring an eared architrave, frieze, and moulded cornice.
