Description
The stable and hayloft, located 20 metres south of Hall Farm, is probably from the early 17th century. It is constructed from magnesian limestone rubble and features a pantile roof with stone slate coping at the gable end. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a central entrance situated between window openings. There are three breathers on the first floor and a pitching door in the gable. Inside, it has a collar beam roof. This stable is notable as part of a 17th-century complex that includes Hall Farm, the cowshed, granary, threshing barn, and the cottages known as Burton cottage and Chantries cottage, which are reputed to have been the original Hillam Hall.
