Description
This is a former house, now divided into a pair of houses, dating to the 17th century. It is reputed to have had an inscription of 1609, although this is now concealed by rendering. The building is constructed of magnesian limestone, which has been rendered on the front elevation. It is two storeys high and arranged with six bays. The entrances, in the second and fourth bays, are 20th-century long-panel doors set within four-centred arches, which have chamfered jambs. The windows are mostly sixteen-pane Yorkshire sashes, with some 20th-century casements, and are generally found under hoodmoulds in double-chamfered surrounds. Ashlar kneelers and a stone coping run along the roofline, with ridge stacks present. On the left side, a three-light mullion window set in a double-chamfered surround and beneath a hoodmould is located on the first floor, alongside a further three-light mullion window in a double-chamfered surround to the gable. The right side of the building has two small windows under hoodmoulds on the ground floor, the left of which retains remains of a chamfered mullion, and a three-light mullion window with a hoodmould to the first floor. The rear elevation also features three-light mullion windows in double-chamfered surrounds and under hoodmoulds. The building is believed to have been the original Hillam Hall and is significant as part of a 17th-century complex, which also includes Hall Farm, a cowshed and granary, stables, and a threshing barn.
