HILLAM CHAPEL STREET (south side) Cowshed and Granary to Hall Farm 12 metres south east of house

GV II

Cowshed and granary. Early C17. Magnesian limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and pantile roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Ground floor: 2 off-centre entrances and 2 window openings, that to left in chamfered surround. Central steps to 1st floor granary entrance, a C20 long-panel door. Further window openings. Pigeon holes to right gable end. Interior: king post roof with chamfered beams. Notable as part of a C17 complex including Hall Farm (q.v.), Stables (q.v.), Threshing Barn (q.v.) and Burton Cottage and Chantries Cottage (q.v.) (reputed to have been the original Hillam Hall).
