Description
This is a row of four small, two-storey houses dating from the early 19th century, located on the west side of Bedford Street. Numbers 19 and 22 occupy a corner site. The houses are constructed of red brick with a stucco frieze. Numbers 21 and 22 have prominent, full-height stucco pilaster strips dividing the window bays, with the same detail extending around the front of number 22. They have a moulded eaves cornice beneath a low-pitched slate roof.
Number 19 has a symmetrical facade with three windows across the front. Number 20 has one window to each floor, plus a blind window above the front door. Numbers 21 and 22 each have two windows, with one blind window on the first floor and one window on the ground floor, each complemented by a stucco panel below the sill. the return front of number 22 mirrors this arrangement, with two windows, one blind, to both floors, and stucco panels below the sills. Most of the windows retain their original glazing bar sashes and flat-gauged arches.
Number 19 has a four-panel door within a panelled surround, an architrave, a frieze, and a projecting moulded cornice. Number 20 has a similar doorcase, although the door itself is modern, with a passage door to the left. Numbers 21 and 22 have a four-panel door and a wooden door, respectively, each topped by a semi-circular fanlight set within a gauged brick arch. The buildings exhibit group value.
