Description
The Old Alexandra Music Hall is a music hall that has been converted into a bar. It was built in 1859 and altered in the 20th century. The building is made of red brick with stucco dressings that are now painted. It features a slate roof and a rendered brick parapet. The facade includes two 20th-century shop fronts with rusticated pilasters and upper casement windows, topped by a moulded entablature. Above this, there is a tall upper floor with a recessed center that has three tall round-headed windows with moulded stucco tops. The facade also has slightly projecting single window wings with rusticated quoins and similar single round-headed windows, all capped with a dentilated cornice and a panelled parapet. The rear stucco facades have three boarded round-headed windows.
Inside, the building retains many original features, including the original auditorium, which has been floored in. The original cast iron balustrade from the former balcony is still present, along with much of the original plasterwork, a glazed lantern, and a small dome. There is an egg and dart cornice to the moulded coving, and eight ornate cast iron columns support the balcony.
