Description
4 and 4A Newborough is a mid-18th century building that stands three storeys high with an attic. It is constructed of red brick and features chamfered painted stone quoins, a frieze, and a moulded cornice. The quoins extend into the parapet, which has coping. A large modern dormer with two windows is present. The upper floors have three windows; the centre window is built on the second floor, while the outer sashes are recessed with flat arches and keystones, reaching up to the cornice on the first floor. These windows date from around 1800 and consist of three close-set elegant shallow bowed sashes in fluted pilaster frames, complete with a common frieze and moulded cornice, and the glazing bars are intact. The ground floor has a modern shop front. The entrance to No 4A leads to a small court at the rebuilt rear elevation, which features four flush panels and a semi-circular fanlight with leaded wreathed radial glazing.
