Description
No. 8 Tuthill is a building from the 18th century that has undergone significant alterations in the 19th century and later. It is located on the north side and is adjacent to Nos. 6 and 7 Princess Terrace. The building has three storeys and is roughcast with a gable end facing Tuthill. It features a pointed window in the gable and two windows on the other floors, which have slightly recessed architrave framed sashes with later glazing. There is a window projection with a side entrance that leads up a flight of steps to Princess Terrace. The entrance is likely a reset feature, consisting of a painted stone doorway with panelled piers and block imposts leading to a panelled door, topped with a keystone that extends into a cornice below a moulded pediment. The tympanum above the doorway contains an intertwined R R cypher and the date 1749. The wall is rendered with stone coping that sweeps up to the side. Nos. 4 to 8 (even) form a group, and No. 8 specifically forms a group with Nos. 6 and 7 Princess Terrace.
