Description
The West and East Lodges to Plompton Hall, along with their gate piers, were built around 1760, likely designed by John Carr for Daniel Lascelles. These lodges are made of coursed gritstone and feature Westmorland slate roofs. Each lodge is a small, single-storey house with one main bay and later extensions.
The West Lodge has two 16-pane sash windows with plain sills and lintels. It features carved eaves brackets that support the guttering on the right bay, which has a hipped roof. The left bay, which is an additional extension, has a flat roof. There are chimney stacks on the left side and on the ridge of the right bay. A 20th-century board door with a plain lintel faces the drive. A square-section pier with a shallow pyramidal cap is connected to the lodge by a short wall near the doorway.
The East Lodge is similar in design, but its additional bay on the right has a hipped roof and a ridge stack.
