Description

Plompton Hall is a country house built around 1760, likely designed by John Carr for Daniel Lascelles. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays, with rusticated quoins. The wide central bay slightly projects forward and includes a modern glazed door with a fanlight and narrow margin lights, above which is a modern six-pane window with a semicircular wrought-iron balcony, all set within a tall, round-arched recess that has voussoirs and an impost band. Flanking the door are round-headed niches, with circular niches above. The side bays have blind windows on the ground floor, and on the left, there is a sash window with glazing bars, along with two six-pane sashes above. The building features plain lintels and sills throughout, a deep eaves cornice, and a triangular pediment over the central bay. The roof is hipped, with stacks located to the left and at the rear center. The rear facade has a projecting canted bay with a stack and modern inserted windows. Inside, there is an Adam-style fireplace made of white marble in the entrance hall.

Short flanking walls, approximately 3 meters high, connect the house to the stable buildings. The wall on the left has three ball and cushion finials. Later additions built against the north face of these walls are not of special interest. The house appears to have been converted from the south range of the stables when Daniel Lascelles moved to Goldsborough Hall in 1762, at which point construction on the larger house to the southwest of the stables stopped.
