Description
The East and West Lodges, along with their gates and piers, were built around 1771-1790 and served as the former gate lodges to Doddington Hall. They were designed by Samuel Wyatt and feature yellow sandstone ashlar with plain tile roofs. The lodges are single storey and are connected by a range of drive gates.
On the road front, there are central double drive gates adorned with arrow head finials on the palings, quatrefoils on the dogbars, and crescent-shaped strengthening bars. Square piers on either side have banded rustication and pyramidal caps. To the sides of these piers are double wicket gates that resemble the drive gates but lack the strengthening bars and lateral demi-piers, which are designed similarly to the central piers and are attached to the lodges.
Each lodge has a slightly projecting plinth and a central, slightly recessed archway with voussoirs above, containing a sash window with three by four panes. Both lodges have pyramidal roofs and central square chimney stacks, with doorways located at the front facing the drive. Each lodge also has lateral brick extensions, which are not included in this listing.
