Description

The Cliffe is a house built in the mid to late 19th century. It features a brick exterior covered by imitation timber framing and has two storeys with an attic. The entrance front has a gabled porch wing on the right, which includes a four-centered archway adorned with foliage in the spandrels and three arched panels above, each featuring coats of arms and supported by bulbous Jacobean pilasters with Ionic capitals. A three-light oriel window on the first floor is supported by carved brackets and has decorative lozenge-shaped glazing that is a characteristic feature throughout the building. The timber framing on either side of the oriel window includes ogee struts, and the gable has quatrefoil framing, jetties, moulded bargeboards, and decorated brackets. To the left of the porch is a two-light ground floor window, followed by a two-storey canted bay window that has three-light windows in the centre and two-light casements at the angles, all beneath a hipped roof.

On the garden front, the original design consisted of three bays, but the left-hand bay has been demolished. The left-hand window, which was originally the central window, features a canted bay window similar to the one on the entrance front, with decorative quatrefoil panelling. To the right, there is a projecting gabled wing that includes four-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, each with mullions and one transom. The jettied gable of this wing also displays decorative quatrefoil panelling.
