Description
Holgate's House is a house that incorporates remains of Malton Grammar School. It has origins dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century, and a coach-house and stable extension. Further extensions and modernisation occurred in the 20th century. The earlier part of the building is constructed from rubble stone, while the extension is made of stretcher bond brick, which was formerly painted and has since been refaced in coursed stone. The roof is covered with pantiles and features brick stacks. The house has a one-storey, three-bay front, with a one-storey, two-bay extension to the right. The entrance to the house is located in the right return of the extension. There is a blocked former entrance in the centre bay of the 17th-century part, situated between three large pane sliding sash windows with timber lintels. The extension includes one similar window in the right bay and has a cogged eaves course.
