Description
Nos 1 to 5 on Parliament Street are a group of buildings constructed around 1900 in the Scottish Baronial style. The structure features four bays with a two-bay return, standing four storeys tall with dormers and a slated roof. The exterior is made of coursed, squared grit stone rubble, showcasing a gabled south facade and plain, stepped gables on the bays of the east front. A tourelle with a clock is located at the corner. The windows are recessed casement types with transoms and mullions, while the first and second floors feature splayed bay windows topped with a balustraded parapet. The former main entrance had a domed oriel window above at the first floor level, with a plaque at the second floor level inscribed "J.H.1900." The ground floor has been modernized with shops and entrances, and there is a modern pavement canopy with a glazed roof.
