Description
This building, likely dating from the early 17th century, is thought to have been an inn. It is now an outbuilding associated with Stott Fold Farm. The structure is built of rubble with large dressed stone blocks and incorporates two cart entries. A notable feature is a deeply recessed double-chamfered stone mullion window with two lights, located on the north side. The building's survival is significant because it represents a remnant of the time when Cowling Hill served as the primary settlement within the parish, situated at the intersection of routes leading north towards Halifax and west towards Skipton. A barn at Stott Fold Farm (which is not part of this listing) has an early date of 1616 inscribed on a lintel, which is believed to have originated from this inn building.
