Description

Bank View and Rockwood comprise a former farmhouse, likely dating to the 17th or early 18th century, and three cottages from the 19th century. Originally used as farm buildings, they were converted into two dwellings in 2019. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof.

The farmhouse appears initially to be divided into two units at the front, but the continuous masonry to its left suggests the adjacent cottage may have been adapted from the lower part of the original structure. The cottage to the right shares a large 17th-century outshut at the rear with the farmhouse. The farmhouse features a string course that runs over two 19th-century doors and the door of the third cottage. It has double-chamfered mullion windows: three-light windows to the ground floor (now two), a window that may originally have had three lights but lacks a mullion, and four-light windows above the latter, all lacking outer mullions. Other openings are 19th-century. Further chamfered mullion windows of two lights are found at the rear.

The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey.

Local tradition suggests the farmhouse was extended to provide accommodation for a nearby mill, which has since been demolished.
