Description

The farmhouse at Gamsgill probably dates to 1707, with later additions. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and stone ridge details. The original two-bay section is two storeys high and features quoins, coping stones, and kneelers. Two chimneys are present. The windows have square surrounds with a double quirked roll, but the mullions are chamfered. Ground floor windows have 3, 2, and 2 lights respectively, while first-floor windows have 3, 5, and a stepped central light. Some quoins create a straight joint between the upper windows. Two doorways are present. The rear elevation has been pebble-dashed and incorporates similar windows. Upstairs, a small stone fireplace with a heavy mantel on a cyma cornice is notable, bearing the inscription "EGMG 1707," potentially relating to the Garforth family.
