Description

Thornesfield Farmhouse and the attached barn, likely built in the mid to late 17th century, are constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof on the house and an asbestos roof on the barn. The two-storey farmhouse consists of two units and features a continuous outshut at the rear. The entrance is located at the right end of the front and is sheltered by an enclosed stone porch with a gabled roof supported by kneelers. The doorway is chamfered and triangular-headed. To the left of the entrance, there is an unmoulded doorway leading into the left room. The remaining openings are double chamfered mullion windows, with hoodmoulds on the ground floor. These windows include two lights (originally four) and three lights (originally five) on the lower level, and two lights (originally three), two, and two backing each mullion on the upper level. The side and rear also feature two-light mullion windows, with the rear windows lacking mullions, and one five-light window missing only one mullion. There are two chimneys on the farmhouse.

Inside the farmhouse, the right room contains a heck and two beams, with chamfered doorways leading to the outshut and the adjacent room. The barn has large quoins at the front with two original outshuts that have round-headed small lights. A chamfered doorway connects the barn to the house through a recessed wall. Inside the barn, there is a heavy truss supported by corbels.
