Description
The Stubbings is a former farmhouse, likely built around 1700, as indicated by a datestone. It features hammer-dressed stone and a stone slate roof, and is two storeys high. The building has a two-unit plan with double chamfered stone mullion windows on each floor. The ground floor windows, originally with three and four lights (now two), have a string course that creates hoodmoulds. Above, there are three-light windows with two 19th-century openings between them. A plain 19th-century doorway interrupts the left window's jamb, while a chamfered doorway utilizes the quoins on the right side. One of the jamb stones is inscribed with "GEMESE," possibly referring to Emmott. There is also a dilapidated extension that has large jambs for a cart entry, one of which is inscribed "GME 1700." The interior has not been inspected.
