Description
The Cedar Court Hotel dates to around 1855, with additions made in 1861. The site was originally the location of the Queen’s Head Inn, established in 1687 and considered the earliest inn in Harrogate. It later operated as the Queen Hotel before being taken over by the Leeds Regional Hospital Board in 1959. The building has a rambling, three-storey facade, incorporating a former manager’s house to the south and a ballroom to the north. A central entrance bay is distinguished by a pediment. There have been substantial extensions and additions to the rear. The roof is covered in Welsh slate. The building is constructed of grit stone ashlar with a bracketed cornice and a balustraded parapet. It features segmental arched sash windows and a ground floor ballroom with console bracketed cornices. A series of irregular, splayed bay windows rise the full height of the building. A central portico features splayed bay windows and Tuscan columns in antis, supporting an entablature with a bracketed cornice. The Cedar Court Hotel forms a group with numbers 1 and 2.
