Description
Bishops Cottage is a cottage built in the mid to late 18th century. It features red-brown brick on a sandstone plinth and has a pantile roof with stone coping and kneelers, along with an end stack on the right side. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with the main entrance located at the rear.
On the ground floor, there is a sash window with glazing bars set in a flush wood architrave to the left, which is placed under a flat red gauged brick arch. To the right, there is a large bow window that dates from around 1970. A two-course band runs along the first floor. Above, there are sash windows with glazing bars (20 replacements) in flush wood architraves. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled.
To the left of the main cottage is a late 18th-century extension that was originally a farm building but has been converted to form part of the house and a garage. This extension is also made of red brick, has a pantile roof with stone coping, and features a garage door along with one sash window with glazing bars. The eaves are dentilled. The cottage is included in the listing for its important group value.
