Description
Church Farm is a mid-18th century cottage with an adjoining stable. It is located on Church Hill in Crayke. The cottage is constructed primarily of red-brown local brick, with some coursed squared sandstone to the rear and sandstone alternating block quoins. It has a swept pantile roof with rendered raised verges, chimneys positioned on the end, ridge, and rear front eaves to the left end. The cottage is two storeys high and three bays wide, with a gable-end facing the road. It has Yorkshire sash windows under flat brick arches, with the exception of the window on the left, which appears to replace a former entrance. A 6-panel door is located in the second bay from the right, set within a simple wood architrave. A first-floor band runs around the building, and Yorkshire sash windows are located above. Stepped eaves are present. The stable is single-storied and constructed of coursed rubble sandstone with brick dentilled eaves, and a swept pantile roof with an end stack. A stable door and a Yorkshire sash window are visible. A later building abuts the stable to the south, and is not considered to be of special interest.
