Description
Tudor Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid to late 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with a rear wall rebuilt in brick and a stone plinth. The roof is swept pantile with raised rendered verges and end stacks. The cottage has two storeys, comprising one small bay and one large bay, and follows an end-lobby-entry plan with two rooms in depth. The exterior displays interrupted sills and vertical studding with upward braces that have a slight convex curve. A 19th-century four-panel door is flanked by wood pilasters, while 20th-century casement windows have been added.
Inside, there is a heavy ceiling beam that rests on the bressumer of the fireplace, and a studded partition divides the bays. This cottage is notable for being two rooms deep, which is unusual for timber-framed houses in the region, as most typically have rear rooms in outshots. The full height parts of the rear wall indicate the original layout has been preserved.
