Description

This is a terrace of four houses located on the south side of Commercial Street in Norton-on-Derwent, dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The houses are built of variegated brick in Flemish bond to the front and stretcher bond to the sides, with red brick quoins and dressings. The roof is covered in pantiles.

The front of the terrace has a symmetrical appearance with four windows per storey. The ground floor features 20th-century doors, with a part-glazed door to number 64 and the remaining doors consisting of six panels, accessed by brick and stone steps to the right of the ground-floor windows. One original window remains, a three-light, small-pane, horizontal sliding sash at number 68; the others are 20th-century bow windows with glazing bars. The first floor retains original three-light sliding sashes, as does the attic floor with the exception of the window on the right-hand end, which is a 20th-century cross window. All original windows have painted wedge lintels and quoined jambs. A modillion eaves course runs along the top of the building. The gables are coped and have plain kneelers. Chimneys are located at the ends of the terrace, and in the centre and to the centre right and left.
